PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore
Mila Saric posted a win at the top singles spot, but William & Mary women's tennis suffered a 4-1 setback at Penn on Saturday afternoon. After Saric's win pulled W&M within 2-1, the Quakers won a pair of three-set matches to pull out the team triumph.
How It Happened
- Penn (6-5) took the doubles point with wins at the bottom two positions.
- After the Quakers won at No. 2 to take the early advantage, junior
Vitoria Okuyama and Saria pulled the Tribe (5-5) even with a victory at No. 1. The duo topped Marija Curnic and Amanda Chan, 6-4, for its fifth win on the year and third at the top spot.
- Penn picked up the doubles point with a win on line three.
- After the Quakers increased their lead to 2-0 with a win at No. 5, Saric got the Tribe on the board with a win at the top spot. She upended Ashley Zhu, 7-5, 6-2, for her second win at No. 1. Saric improved to 13-7 overall and 5-4 in dual-match competition.
- The final four singles matches all went to three sets. Unfortunately, Penn tallied three-set wins at No. 3 and No. 6 to secure the team triumph. Amanda Chan (No.3) and Jennifer Richards (No. 6) posted wins to clinch the Quakers victory.
- Senior
Rosie Cheng (No. 2) and Okuyama (No. 4)rallied from set deficits to force decisive thirds when their matches were abandoned. Okuyama led 3-2 in the third over Carolyn Xie when her match was stopped at No. 4, while Cheng was even with Marija Curnic at four in the third on line two.

The Tribe continues its five-match road trip at Big Ten foe Maryland on Sunday, March 8. The match carries a noon start time.
