CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Playing its second-straight nationally-ranked opponent, William & Mary men's tennis suffered a 7-0 setback at No. 35-ranked Virginia on Wednesday afternoon.
How It Happened
- Virginia claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
- After the Cavaliers won at the top spot, the W&M tandem of junior
Chen Ruo and
Joseph Brailovsky upended RJ Fresen and William Woodall, 6-3, on line two. The Tribe duo improved to 7-2 at No. 2.
- Virginia's No. 3 team of Ryan Goetz and Gianni Ross outlasted junior
Finbar Talcott and sophomore
Daniel Pellerito, 6-4, to clinch the initial point of the match.
- The Cavaliers won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. No. 42-ranked Carl Soderlund clinched the match for UVA with a win at No. 1.
- At the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions, the Tribe turned in strong showings before falling. On line five, Pellerito extended the match to three sets with a 6-3 win in the second set, but Ross won the third-set super tiebreaker, 10-3.

Oren Vasser played a pair of tight sets at No. 6, before falling to Ammar Alhaqbani, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
