BLACKSBURG, VA.- Tyler Solomon hit a pair of solo home runs, but it was not enough to overcome at 10-run third inning from Virginia Tech as the Tribe saw its four-game winning streak snapped in Blacksburg Tuesday afternoon. The loss drops the Green and Gold to 8-9 on the season.
Tech would take a 1-0 lead manufacturing a run in the second. Hunter singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a ground out. A weakly-hit infield single would plate the Hokie to open the scoring. The lead wouldn't last long as
Tyler Solomon led off the third blasting a homer over the left-field wall to tie the game at one.
However, Virginia Tech would bust the ballgame open in the bottom half of the third scoring 10 runs on nine hits capped off by a two-run homer from Kevin Madden. After a scoreless fourth,
Tyler Solomon would send a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left-center for this second solo jack of the day.
The Tribe would manufacture runs in the sixth and the seventh but it would not be enough to overcome the large deficit. William & Mary will look to start a new winning streak Friday evening as the team welcomes UMASS-Lowell in for a weekend tilt. The Tribe is 8-2 at Plumeri Park this season.
