WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis won its first match outdoors in 2020, upending Colonial Athletic Association foe Elon, 5-2, at the Millie West Tennis Facility on Sunday afternoon. The Tribe (7-1) rallied to claim the doubles point before winning four of six singles matches, including two in three sets, to improve to 2-0 in CAA play.
How It Happened
- The Tribe rallied to capture the doubles point for the eighth-straight matches to start the season with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
- After an Elon win at No. 1, sophomore
Joseph Brailovsky and junior
Chen Ruo pulled W&M even with a victory on line two. Tied at two, the Tribe pair won three-straight games on the way to a 6-3 win over Sam Dively and Camilo Ponce. The pair is 5-2 at No. 2 this season.

Finbar Talcott and sophomore
Daniel Pellerito clinched the doubles point with a win at No. 3. After W&M led by a break early, Elon's Chung-Han Tsai and Dino Bonetla rallied to take a 5-4 lead. Talcott and Pellerito won three-straight games to clinch the point. Pellerito served out the win with an ace to give the Green and Gold a 7-5 win. The pair improved to 5-0 at No. 3 and 6-2 overall.
- In singles play, freshman
George Davis swiftly upped the Tribe lead to 2-0 with a straight-sets win at No. 5. The Tribe rookie dropped just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Bonetla for his third-straight victory. He improved to 14-8 overall, 7-1 in dual-match play and 4-1 at No. 5.
- After an Elon win at the top spot, senior
Brenden Volk won his sixth in a row to extend the Tribe lead to 3-1. After Volk won the opening set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5), Tsai led 4-3 in the second. The Tribe senior won the final three games, including a break in the ninth game, to pull out a 6-4 win. He improved to 10-8 overall and 6-1 in dual-match competition
- The match came down a trio of three-set tilts at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6. After the Phoenix picked up a three-set win on line two, Pellerito won the clincher at No. 6. The Tribe sophomore won the opening set, 6-4, before Elon's Dively responded with a 6-3 win in the second. Pellerito jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third, before serving out a 6-1 win for the clincher. He won his team-leading 17th match of the season and upped his record in dual-match play to 6-1.
- Junior
Sebastian Quiros rounded out the Tribe singles wins with a come-from-behind three-set triumph at No. 3. After dropping the first set to Ponce, 6-4, Quiros responded with a 6-4 win in the second and poured it on in the third behind a 6-1 victory. He improved to 10-7 on the year.
