Men's Tennis Sweeps Longwood, Improves to 3-0 for the Second Time in Three Years

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis continued its hot start to the 2020 season with a dominant 7-0 win over the Longwood Lancers on Sunday afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. The Tribe did not drop a set the entire afternoon in improving to 3-0 for the second time in three years.
 
How It Happened
- The Tribe made quick work of doubles, sweeping all three courts to take a 1-0 lead against the Lancers.
- At the No. 3 position, sophomore Daniel Pellerito and junior Finbar Talcott cruised to a 6-2 victory over Longwood's Guilherme Sergio and Marc Casasnovas, evening their record at 2-2.
- The Tribe also dominated at No. 2 with sophomore Joseph Brailovsky and junior Chen Ruo earning a quick 6-2 win over Rosen Naydenov and Ernest Rocabert to improve to 2-1 on the year and clinch the doubles point.
- At the top spot, senior Brenden Volk and freshman George Davis earned a hard fought 7-6 (4) tiebreak win over the Longwood pair of Amadeo Blasco and Guillermo Cagigas, improving as a duo to 4-2 on the year. The Tribe pair is 3-0 at No. 1 in dual-match play.
- Volk kicked off singles at No. 3 by cruising to his fifth win of the year, dropping just two games in earning a 6,1, 6-1 victory over Sandoval.
- At No. 6, Ruo made quick work of Longwood's Rocabert 6-2, 6-3. The win was his eighth of the year, including a 2-0 dual-match record, and gave the Tribe a 3-0 lead.
- Shortly thereafter, Talcott also earned his eighth win by defeating Sergio 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2, en route to clinching the Tribe victory. He improved to 3-0 in dual-match play with his first clincher of the season and sixth of his career.
- Pellerito dropped just four total games in his straight-sets win at No. 5. The Tribe sophomore downed Casasnovas, 6-2, 6-2, to push his team-leading singles mark to 14-3.
- At No. 4, Davis cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Cagigas to earn his 10th win of the season. He is 3-0 in dual-match play.
- Finally, at No. 1, Brailovsky battled to a 6-4, 6-4 win over Amadeo Blasco. The win was his 10th of the season and third at the top spot. Blasco is a three-time All-Big South First Team selection and set the Longwood school record for wins on Saturday against Christopher Newport.

- The Tribe continues its season-opening five-match homestand with two more matches next weekend. W&M hosts George Washington on Saturday, Feb. 15, at noon, before welcoming Liberty on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 11a.m. Both matches will be played at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
