Men's Tennis Dominates Norfolk State, 7-0

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis continued its strong start to the season with a dominant performance against Norfolk State, sweeping the state foe, 7-0, at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
 
How It Happened
- The Tribe received a default victory at the No. 3 doubles post to start the match as NSU played with an incomplete lineup. The Tribe won at the top two spots by matching 6-2 scores to take the opening point of the match.
- The combination of senior Brenden Volk and freshman George Davis initiated the Tribe's sweep with a 6-2 victory over Andres Alcaraz and Vini Da Silva to clinch the doubles point. Volk and Davis are 3-2 overall on the season and 2-0 at No. 1.
- Junior Chen Ruo and sophomore Joseph Brailovsky followed suit attaining a 6-2 triumph over Agustin Carrizo and Ignaeio Guevel on line two.
- The Tribe lead moved to 2-0 with a default victory at No. 6 before Ruo and sophomore Daniel Pellerito cemented the team victory with unblemished wins at No. 4 and No. 5.  
- At No. 5, Ruo did not drop a game on his way to a straight-set win, 6-0, 6-0, over Anderson Brickhouse. The Tribe junior improved to 7-3 on the year.
- Pellerito won his first career clinching match with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win over Ignacio Guevel. He is a team-best 13-3 in singles competition, including a 2-0 dual-match mark.
- Brailovsky downed Da Silva, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 to continue his impressive start. Brailovsky moved to 2-0 at No. 1 and 9-5 overall with the triumph.
- At No. 3, Davis improved to 2-0 in dual-match play with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Agustin Carrizo. The Tribe rookie is 9-7 overall on the season.
- Junior Finbar Talcott rounded out the Tribe sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Alcaraz at No. 2. He evened his season ledger at 7-7 with his second dual-match victory.

- The Tribe continues its season-opening five-match homestand at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center with Longwood on Sunday, Feb. 9, at noon. It marks the Green and Gold's third-straight against an opponent from the state of Virginia.
