Women's Tennis Upends No. 48 East Carolina

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's tennis picked up its first top-50 win under head coach Toni Bickford, upending No. 48 East Carolina, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
 
The Tribe (5-2) captured the doubles point for the sixth time in seven matches before sophomore Mila Saric (No. 3), junior Vitoria Okuyama (No. 4) and freshman Elisa Van Meeteren (No. 6) posted singles victories to secure the upset.
 
How it Happened
- The Green and Gold claimed the doubles point for the sixth time in seven matches with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to take an early 1-0 lead.
- Senior Rosie Cheng and senior Natalia Perry started the Tribe off with a 6-3 win over Nastja Rettich and Michelle Ncube at No. 2. The Tribe tandem improved to 2-0 on line two.
- The freshman duo of Raffaela Alhach and Elisa Van Meeteren clinched the doubles point at No. 3. The Tribe team bounced ECU's Minette Van Vreden and Ho Chiao Hsia, 6-2.
- After ECU pulled even with a win at the top singles spot, sophomore Mila Saric and Van Meeteren quickly followed with wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles to put the Tribe back on top.
- Saric dropped only three games in a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Michelle Ncube at No. 3. With the victory, the Tribe sophomore improved to 12-5 overall and 4-2 in dual-match action.
- Van Meeteren continued her strong dual-match season, improving to 5-1 in singles action. She downed Minette Van Vreden, 6-2, 6-3, to even her overall singles ledger at 10-10.
- Junior Vitoria Okuyama notched a three-set win at No. 4 to clinch the Tribe upset. She won the opening set, 6-4, before ECU's Nastja Rettich took the second, 6-3. Okuyama rolled in the decisive third, dropping just one game in a 6-1 victory. The Tribe junior improved to 10-6 overall and 3-0 at No. 4 with her third clinching win of the season.
