Men's Tennis Picks Up Dominant Road Win at Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – William & Mary men's tennis hit the road for the first time in 2020 on Friday afternoon and continued its winning ways with a convincing 6-1 victory over Ivy League foe Yale.
 
After winning a close doubles point thanks to a tiebreaker win at No. 1 from senior Brenden Volk and freshman George Davis, the Tribe (5-1) claimed five of six singles matches, including four in straight-sets, to dispatch of the Bulldogs (2-4). 
 
How It Happened
- The Tribe opened by claiming the doubles point for the sixth-straight match. Overall, the Green and Gold is 15-2 in dual-match doubles action.
- At No. 3, sophomore Daniel Pellerito and junior Finbar Talcott improved to 4-0 with a 6-3 win over Louis Siegler and Robert Shymansky.
- After Yale pulled even with a win at No. 2, the Tribe's top pair of Volk and Davis pulled out a tiebreaker triumph to clinch the doubles point for the second time this season. The two-time reigning CAA Doubles Team of the Week won its sixth in a row, outlasting Yale's Michael Sun and Arnav Dhingra, 7-6 (8).
- The Tribe turned in a dominant performance in singles action, winning five of six matches, including four in straight sets.
- Pellerito dropped just one game in a route at No. 6. The Tribe sophomore rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Daniel Gale for his team-leading 16th singles win of the year. Pellerito is 5-1 in dual-match competition.
- At the top singles post, sophomore Joseph Brailovsky dropped just two games in a strong 6-1, 6-1 win over Michael Sun. Brailovsky improved to 5-1 at No. 1 and 12-6 overall.
- After clinching the doubles point, Davis and Volk posted straight-sets singles wins at No. 4 and No. 5. On line five, Davis upended Dhingra, 6-2, 6-2, to run his singles ledger to 12-8 overall and 5-1 in dual-match play. Volk topped Ryan Cheng, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4 to even his single mark at 8-8. The Tribe senior is 4-1 in dual-match play.
- Talcott rounded out the Tribe singles triumphs with a three-set win over Robert Shymansky at No. 2. The Tribe junior won the opening set, 6-2, before his Bulldog counterpart responded with a 6-3 win in the second. In the decisive third set, Talcott claimed a 10-4 super tiebreaker win. He moved to 9-9 overall and 4-2 in dual-match competition.
 
Up Next
The Tribe wraps up its two-match Ivy League road swing at Brown on Sunday, Feb. 23. The match carries a 10 a.m. start time and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
