Four Ink NLIs to Join Women’s Basketball Program

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary head women's basketball coach Ed Swanson announced the signing of Madison Magee (Avondale, Ariz./ Valley Vista), Danielle McTeer (Hampton, Va. / Hampton), Ruthie Montella (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) and Ava Stevenson (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Trinity) to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday.
 
"We are excited to welcome Dani, Maddy, Ruthie and Ava who are exceptional and accomplished winners to our program," Swanson said. "These players are the perfect fit for William & Mary. They want to pursue some of the best academics in the nation while playing a high level of Division I basketball in the CAA. This class will help us continue to move the program forward and accomplish more 'firsts' throughout their careers. We have multiple high school state champions in this signing class. They are all workers and winners. This signing class is consistent with our program goals of recruiting, coaching highly motivated student-athletes, who are successful on the court and in the game of life."

"Madison is always working on her game. She won a high school state championship and her team is hoping to pursue a repeat. Madison can play around the basket with solid back to the basket moves. At the same time, she can stretch the defense with her shot and ability to handle the ball. Madison's size will help us and be a match up problem for opponents."

"From our own backyard, Dani brings some great athletic ability to our program. She has excellent rebounding ability and the grit to get the job done. She will play multiple positions inside and out. A Class 4-A Virginia state champion, while also playing for the nationally competitive Boo Williams Nike AAU programs, she has worked hard in the classroom and on the court to develop into the player that can have an impact in our program. Her work ethic, athletic ability and versatility will help us right away."

Daughter of Bruce and Sherry Montella … Father, Bruce, lettered in both football and baseball at the University of Chicago and had a brief NFL career with the Chicago Bears … He was an All-American in 1985 and Sports Illustrated Player of the Week in Sept. of 1981, before earning a spot in the school's hall of fame in 2005 … Cousin, Kelsey Bogdon, played basketball at Harvard from 2015-18 … Enjoys watching college football, going to siblings' sports games and going tubing in Lake Michigan.

"Ruthie comes from another state championship program at Fremd. She plays an aggressive style on both sides of the ball and takes pride in her defense which will allow her to defend the other team's best players. Her size at the guard position and ability to slash to the basket will help us with our aggressive style of play. She can score at the rim, mid-range and three. Ruthie is an accomplished contributor to her high school team and for the national competitive Illinois Elite AAU team. We are excited to welcome her high intensity style of play. She will be able to play multiple guard positions while being a defensive specialist."
