Men's Tennis Rolls Past James Madison in Season Opener

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis kicked off the 2020 campaign with a resounding 6-1 win over Colonial Athletic Association rival James Madison on Sunday afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. The Tribe continued its dominance of the Dukes (2-1), winning for the seventh-straight time and 24th in the last 25 meetings between the teams.

How It Happened
- The Tribe won at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions to take a 1-0 lead against the Dukes.
- Senior Brenden Volk and freshman George Davis jumped to a 3-0 lead over the JMU pair of Alvaro Arce and Gonzalo Adis on the way to a 6-2 triumph at the top spot. The duo evened its record at 2-2.
- At the No. 3 position, the sophomore tandem of Daniel Pellerito and Oren Vasser won the final three games to down Holden Koons and William Karpinski, 6-4, and clinch the doubles point. It marked the Tribe pair's first win together.
- Junior Finbar Talcott made quick work of Koons at No. 3 to push the Tribe lead to 2-0. Talcott dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 triumph for his sixth victory of the season.
- Davis notched his first career dual-match win, upending Gonzalo Adis, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot. It marked the Tribe rookie's eighth win overall this season.
- Vasser clinched the Tribe triumph with a straight-sets win at No. 5. He bounced JMU's Damon Roberts, 6-1, 6-3, to improve to 7-5 this season. It marked Vasser's first career clinching victory.
- Like Davis and Vasser, Pellerito dropped just four total games in his straight-sets win at No. 6. The Tribe sophomore downed Karpinski, 6-3, 6-1, to push his team-leading singles mark to 12-3.
- In his first dual-match with the Tribe, sophomore Joseph Brailovsky capped off the Tribe singles wins, claiming the top spot. He defeated Stefan Petrovic, 6-2, 7-5, to improve to 8-5 on the season.
