Women's Tennis Wins Opener 4-0 over George Washington

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's tennis opened 2020 in style with a 4-0 win over George Washington on Saturday morning at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. The Tribe won its opener for the fifth-straight year and improved to 35-5 in openers all-time.

How It Happened
- The Tribe claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to take an early 1-0 lead.
- Senior Natalia Perry and freshman Raffaela Alhach teamed together for the first time and dropped just one game at No. 2 in a 6-1 win over Jiaqing Mo and Alexandra Vesikallio. It was Perry's 40th career doubles win.
- At No. 3, senior Charlotte Madson and freshman Elisa Van Meeteren jumped out to a 4-0 lead on the way to a clinching 6-3 win over Luciana Kunkel and Lara McNaughten.
- Madson increased the Tribe's lead to 2-0 with a convincing win at No. 5 singles. The Tribe senior, who was 12-9 in dual-match play last season, dropped just two games in making quick work of McNaughten, 6-0, 6-2. It marked Madson's fourth victory of the season.
- Perry won 10-straight games on the way to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Katarina Marinkovikj, who was an All-Atlantic 10 performer last season, at the top singles post. Perry evened her singles ledger at 5-5 on the year while increasing the Tribe advantage to 3-0.
- Sophomore Mila Saric clinched the match with a victory at No. 2. She downed two-time All-Atlantic 10 pick Melis Bayraktaroglu in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Saric improved her team-best single mark to 9-3 and recorded her fourth career clinching win.
