WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's tennis team wraps up the regular season on Saturday, April 13, hosting No. 32-ranked Old Dominion for Senior Day. The match carries a 2 p.m. start time from the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center, and the Tribe will honor its three-member senior class of
Deepa Dhore,
Lauren Goodman and
Clara Tanielian for its contribution to the Green and Gold program.
Scouting the Tribe
- The Tribe split its matches last week with a 4-3 win over James Madison and a 4-2 setback at Liberty. W&M is 7-12 on the year.
- The Green and Gold more than likely locked up the top seed in the CAA Championship for the fifth-straight season with the win over JMU. The Tribe is 3-0 against the league this season and have won 13 in a row against the CAA.
- W&M captured the doubles point in each of its matches last week with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Senior

- Freshman
Mila Saric (No. 4), Goodman (No. 5) and junior
Natalia Perry (No. 2) won the first three singles matches off the court against JMU to give W&M a 4-0 lead in a rematch of last season's league championship match.
- Madson won for the sixth time in her last seven matches against Liberty. She ranks second on the team at 10-7 in dual-match singles competition.
- Tanielian and Okuyama earned their first national ranking on Tuesday, coming in at No. 82 in the country. The pair is 8-2 on the year with seven of those wins at the top spot. Included in their haul of wins was a triumph over the No. 48-ranked Penn team of Marta Kowalska and Maija Curnic.
- On three occasions this season, the Tribe has swept the CAA weekly award and owns a total of eight accolades (four singles and four doubles) this season. Saric has been named the CAA Player of the Week on two occasions (Feb. 13 and March 6), while juniors
Rosie Cheng (April 2) and
Natalia Perry (March 13) have each claimed one. In doubles, Perry and Saric have tallied two weekly honors (Jan. 30 and March 13), while Tanielian and Okuyama took home the award on Feb. 27 and Goodman and Madson garnered the distinction on April 2.
- W&M has captured the doubles point in 12 of its 19 matches.
- Five of the Tribe's setbacks this season have come to top-50 opponents, including losses to current No. 19 Virginia, No. 22 Wake Forest, No. 39 Princeton, No. 40 Rice and No. 45 South Florida. In total, W&M played six major conference opponents, including a trio of ACC foes, in 2019.
Senior Salute
Saturday will be the final home match in the careers of
Deepa Dhore,
Lauren Goodman and
Clara Tanielian. The group has led W&M to a dual-match record of 56-40 over the last four seasons with 10 wins over nationally-ranked opponents and 10 over major conference teams. The class has won a CAA championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament during each of its seasons on campus.
Deepa Dhore (Duluth, Ga. / Peachtree Ridge)
Earned the CAA Commissioner's Award during each of her four years … Owns a 10-9 career singles record, including a 2-1 mark this season … Tallied seven career doubles wins, including a 2-2 record in 2018-19 … Went 2-1 at No. 6 singles as a freshman in 2016.
Lauren Goodman (Fort Wayne, Ind. / New American Conservatory)
Owns a career singles record of 65-51 and a career double mark of 61-45 … Is 12-12 in singles this season and has 10 doubles victories … Named CAA Rookie of the Year in 2016 … A First Team All-CAA selection in doubles in 2017 … Garnered Second Team All-CAA honors in singles and doubles in 2016 … Named First Team VaSID All-State in doubles in 2017 … A Second Team VaSID All-State pick in singles in 2016 … Earned CAA Singles Player of the Week honors three times in her career … A two-time CAA Doubles Team of the Week honoree … Earned the CAA Commissioner's Award during each of her four years … Named an ITA Scholar-Athlete Award winner in 2017.
Clara Tanielian (Ensuès-la-Redonne, France / National Center for Distance Learning)
Transferred to W&M for her final two seasons after spending two years at Miami (Fla.) … Earned the CAA Commissioner's Award during each of her two seasons … Owns a 36-25 record in singles and 28-21 mark in doubles over her Tribe career … Notched 10 singles wins this season and a team-best 11-5 doubles mark, including nine wins at No. 1 … A Second-Team All-CAA selection in singles in 2018 … Twice Named CAA Singles Player of the Week during her career … Earned CAA Doubles Team of the Week honors on four occasions.
Scouting Old Dominion
- Old Dominion returns to action after a two-week hiatus. The Monarchs are ranked No. 32 nationally and sit at 15-3 on the year.
- ODU won 12 of 13 matches before suffering a 4-3 setback in its most recent contest at No. 27 Virginia on March 28.
- The Monarchs and Tribe have six common opponents. ODU went 5-1 against the group of Penn, Memphis, Winthrop, VCU, Maryland and Virginia, while the Tribe is 2-4.
- Junior Holly Hutchinson leads the way for the Monarchs as she is ranked No. 78 nationally in singles. She is 10-4 at the No. 1 spot and 18-8 overall.
- Junior Brooke Pilkington is 14-1 in dual-match play at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions and owns a 19-3 overall ledger.
- Sophomore Yulia Starodubtseva is 16-11 overall and 10-6 in dual-match play at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions.
- In doubles, Hutchinson and Pilkington hold down the top spot at 9-5 with all five losses coming to teams in the national top 50. Starodubtseva and Oleksandra Andrieieva are 6-4 at No. 2, while Natalya Malenko and Nataliia Vlasova are 9-4 on line three.
Series History: W&M vs. Old Dominion
- W&M leads the all-time series with the Monarchs at 50-6, including a 24-1 mark in Williamsburg.
- ODU snapped a three-match Tribe win streak in the series with a 6-1 victory in Norfolk last season.
- The 2019 meeting marks the 31st-straight season that the teams have met.

- The Tribe returns to action when it takes part in the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Championship, April 17-20. The event will be held at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, N.C., for the fourth-straight year.
- W&M has won 26 CAA Championships, including crowns in each of the last four seasons.
- The Tribe will likely be the No. 1 seed in the CAA Tournament and open play in the quarterfinals on Thursday, April 18. The CAA Semifinals are set for Friday, April 19, with the championship match on Saturday, April 21.
