WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary baseball team fell to West Virginia, 12-2, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. The Mountaineers (12-7) limited the Tribe (13-4) to three hits to claim the series.
West Virginia jumped out to an early lead after manufacturing three runs in the first two innings via sacrifice fly and suicide squeeze. A long three-RBI home run in the top half of the fifth extended the Mountaineer lead to 6-0.
Sophomore
Jacob Haney lasted 4.2 innings, giving up six hits and six runs, only four of which were earned. Senior
Nick Butts relieved Haney in the fifth, and went 2.2 innings, surrendering four hits and four runs.
In the bottom of the seventh, junior
Brandon Raquet ended the shutout with a two-out, two-RBI triple. However, the Mountaineers answered back with six runs in the eight to put the game out of reach.
Haney (2-1) took the loss for the Tribe and Kade Strowd (2-1) earned the win for the Mountaineers.

Matthew Trehub tallied a hit each. Raquet recorded the only extra base hit, while also drawing a pair of walks. Senior
Kyle Wrighte reached twice as well, both via walks.
