NORFOLK, Va. – The William & Mary baseball team saw its winning streak come to an end following a 6-3 setback at Old Dominion on Tuesday afternoon. The Monarchs (12-3) erased an early two-run deficit to hand the Tribe (12-2) its first road loss of the season.
The Tribe used a pair of one-run frames to take an initial 2-0 advantage. In the third inning, Freshman
Hunter Hart drove in an unearned run behind a sacrifice fly to center field. An inning later, senior
Jason Waldman drew a walk and advanced to third base on an error before rookie
Jack Cone belted an RBI single to right center.
However, ODU manufactured a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and wouldn't relinquish it. The Monarchs used two hits and a W&M error for a 4-2 advantage. In the seventh inning, a hit by pitch and two singles led to another pair of ODU runs.
Matt Busher (1-1) tossed 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen to earn the win. Sophomore
Justin Pearson (0-1) took the loss after conceding two runs (one earned) and one hit in 1/3 of an inning.
