ELON, N.C. – Sophomore
Sebastian Quiros claimed a three-set win at No. 2 singles, but the William & Mary men's tennis team dropped a Colonial Athletic Association tilt at Elon, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon.
How It Happened
- Senior
Tristan Bautil and freshman
Oren Vasser led 4-3 at the No. 2 post for the Green and Gold, but Elon picked up 6-2 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to secure the initial point of the match. It snapped a two-match streak of winning the doubles point for W&M.
- The Phoenix won the opening set at all six singles spots and went on to win five matches in straight sets.
- After Felipe Sarrasauge and Kyle Frankel won at the No. 1 and No. 4 spots, respectively, to increase Elon's lead to 3-0, Taylor Foote pulled out a tiebreaker second set to down sophomore
Chen Ruo, 6-1, 7-6 (4). The victory at the No. 6 spot cemented the team triumph for the Phoenix. The setback snapped Ruo's two-match win streak.
- At No. 3, Felipe Osses-Konig outlasted sophomore
Finbar Talcott in a close 7-6 (4), 6-4 match.
- Quiros notched his team-leading 15th singles win of the year, including his fourth in dual-match play, with a come-from-behind three-set win on line two. After dropping the first set to Mario Paccini, 6-3, the Tribe sophomore answered with a tiebreaker win, 7-6 (6), in the second. Quiros rolled to a 10-3 third-set super tiebreaker win to claim the Tribe's lone victory. Paccini earned All-CAA honors during each of his three seasons, including first-team accolades in 2016 and 2018.
