Women's Tennis Travels to Top-20 Foe Virginia on Tuesday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's tennis team wraps up a three-match road swing at No. 18 Virginia on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The match carries a 3 p.m. start time from the Boar's Head Sports Club.

Scouting the Tribe
- The Tribe split its matches last week and sit at 2-5 on the year. After dropping a 6-1 decision at ACC foe Wake Forest, W&M bounced back with a 5-2 CAA win over Elon on Feb. 10.
- After Elon claimed the doubles point, W&M won the top five singles positions to claim the win. Juniors Rosie Cheng (No. 1) and Natalia Perry (No. 2), seniors Clara Tanielian (No. 3) and Lauren Goodman (No. 5) and freshman Mila Saric (No. 4) each picked up singles wins.
- Goodman clinched the team triumph with a straight-sets victory at No. 5. It marked her 60th career singles win.
- At No. 1 doubles against Elon, Tanielian and sophomore Vitoria Okuyama posted a 6-3 win over Maria Paraja and Alex Koniaev, which earned All-CAA Second Team honors last season.
- With the win over Elon, W&M continued its dominance over CAA opponents. The Tribe improved to 139-18 (.885) against league competition, including a 62-3 (.954) record against current CAA teams. The Green and Gold is 4-0 against the Phoenix.
- Saric was named the CAA Player of the Week on Feb. 13. She went a perfect 2-0 during the week thanks to a come-from-behind three-set win at No. 5 singles against Wake Forest.
- Tuesday's contest at Virginia marks the second of three against the ACC this season for the Green and Gold. W&M hosts Virginia Tech on March 6. Since 2010, W&M owns 11 victories over ACC competition, including a 2-2 record against the league last season.
 
Scouting Virginia
- The Cavaliers are 7-1 on the year following a doubleheader sweep of ACC foe Boston College and George Mason on Saturday. UVA also owns wins over Quinnipiac, Army, Richmond, No. 18 Illinois and No. 10 Syracuse.
- Meghan Kelley is the Cavaliers top player coming in at No. 45 in the national rankings. She is 15-6 on the year, including a 5-1 mark at the top spot.
- Chloe Gullickson leads UVA with a 15-5 singles mark, including a 4-1 dual-match ledger.
- In doubles, Sofia Munera and Kelley are ranked No. 8 nationally. The pair is 13-2 on the year, including a 1-0 mark at the No. 1 spot.
- Gullickson and Amber O'Dell are 11-5 in doubles play, including a 3-1 record at the top post.
 
Series History: W&M vs. Virginia
- Virginia leads the all-time series with W&M by a slim 22-20 margin.
- The Cavaliers topped W&M, 6-1, in Charlottesville last season. Clara Tanielian picked up the lone Tribe win at No. 2 singles.
- W&M and UVa met for nine out of 10 years between 2005-14.
- After the Green and Gold won seven in a row from 1994-08, the Cavaliers have won the last six.
- The Tribe looks for its first win in the series and in Charlottesville, since downing then-No. 48 Virginia, 7-0, in 2008.
- The Cavaliers hold a 6-4 advantage all-time in Charlottesville.
