Men's Tennis Drops Road Match at LIberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sophomore Sebastian Quiros won his second-straight singles match, but the William & Mary men's tennis team fell at Liberty, 6-1, on Saturday evening at the Boonsboro Country Club.

How It Happened
- After Liberty (3-5) won at the No. 1 doubles post, junior Brenden Volk and sophomore Chen Ruo pulled the Tribe even with a 6-4 win over Josh Wilson and Eddie Gutierrez at the second spot. The Tribe tandem improved to 2-1 on the year.
- The Flames claimed the initial point of the match with a win at the third slot. Steve Mundt and Vince Salas edged the freshman duo of Oren Vasser and Daniel Pellerito, 7-5, to give Liberty the 1-0 advantage.
- LU increased its lead to 3-0 with wins at the top two positions, before the Tribe got on the board. Quiros close the gap to 3-1 with his second-straight win at No. 3. He topped Gutierrez in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, to push his team-leading singles mark to 14-9.
- At No. 6, Pellerito jumped out to a set advantage with a 6-1 victory over Mundt in the opening set. The Liberty rookie led 1-0 in the second when Pellerito was forced to retire. The victory clinched the team triumph for the Flames.
- The matches at No. 4 and No. 5 singles both went three sets. Ian Stugill took the opening set in a tiebreaker from Vasser, 7-6 (3), at No. 4 before the Tribe rookie rallied to win the second 6-3. With the team result already decided, the counterparts met in a third-set super tiebreaker and Stugill edged Vasser, 10-8.
- At No. 5, Ruo and Chase Burton split the first two sets by matching 6-4 scores. The Flames junior took the third-set super tiebreaker, 10-6.
