WILMINGTON, N.C. – William & Mary men's soccer struck twice in each half on the way to a convincing 4-1 win over Northeastern in the CAA Quarterfinals on Friday afternoon. Senior
Julian Ngoh staked the Tribe to a 2-0 lead with a first-half brace just over five minutes apart while sophomore
John Eberle and freshman
Alexander Levengood cemented the W&M's passage into the semifinals with goals in the final frame.
Ngoh scored in the 21st minute and added a penalty kick just 5:13 later to give W&M (7-8-2) an early two-goal lead. On the lid lifter, freshman
Diba Nwegbo played the ball to Ngoh just outside the top right side of the 18, and the rushing striker slotted it home from 12 yards out.
Nwegbo drew a PK in the 26th minute after he was knocked down from behind following a nice back-heel pass from Levengood. Ngoh converted from the spot for the second-straight game to tally a brace over a five-minute span.
Northeastern pulled one back in the 31st minute thanks to a penalty kick. Aiman Ginawi played Timothy Ennin free into the left side of the penalty area, and he was taken down from behind. Like he did in the first meeting, Ennin stepped to the spot and converted for the fifth time this season to close the gap to 2-1.
Eberle pushed the Tribe lead back to two goals, scoring off a beautiful feed from Levengood. The marker came on Eberle's fifth shot of the opening 14 minutes of the second half. After an Eberle shot off a corner kick was blocked and cleared out, Levengood collected and served it into the right side of the area where Eberle scored on the half volley.
Levengood put the finishing touches on the Tribe's 4-1 win with a goal in the 71st minute. Senior
Reeves Trott generated a turnover a midfield but his shot on goal was blocked away by NU goalkeeper Chandler Cree. Levengood bounced on the rebound and finished for his sixth goal of the year.
