BOSTON, MASS.- William & Mary volleyball dropped a three-set match to Northeastern in Boston on Monday evening. The loss dropped the Tribe to 6-15 on the season, 2-8 in conference play.
Julia Brown was a bright spot for The Green and Gold. The junior recorded six kills with a .333 hitting percentage and added four blocks. The Tribe will return home Wednesday to begin their final home stand of the year.
How It Happened
Early in the first set, the Tribe went on a five-point run highlighted by kills from
Claire Farrell and
Lauren Merrill, and a block from Merrill and
Kaitlyn Ferguson to give the Green and Gold a 7-5 lead. After a point from the Huskies, William & Mary would take six of the next seven points behind a pair of
Julia Brown kills to open a 13-7 edge. Northeastern rallied to tie the game 15-15 and later use a 4-0 run to jump to a 19-16 lead. The Huskies would not trail again coasting to a 25-22 win despite the Tribe receiving four kills from both
Julia Brown and
Claire Farrell.
Two kills from
Lauren Merrill and one from
Kate Dedrick helped the Tribe to an early 4-3 edge in set two, but Northeastern would be bolstered by a 4-0 scoring run to take a 9-6 advantage. After the Huskies opened up a 13-8 lead, the Tribe would rally to cut the advantage to one just moments before a block from
Julia Brown would tie the game at 14-14. Northeastern would respond pushing the score to 20-16 on their way to a 25-19 second set win.
The teams traded points early in the third stanza as the Tribe and Huskies played to a 5-5 tie. Five straight points would help Northeastern to an 11-6 lead and later a 3-0 run would give the Huskies a 23-13 cushion. The Huskies would benefit from a pair of aces and a .486 hitting percentage in a 25-15 third set win.
