WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's soccer team season came to a close with a 2-1 setback to Hofstra in the regular season finale on Sunday afternoon at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.
Hofstra jumped on the board first with a goal in the 21st minute. Lucy Porter sent Sabrina Bryan free into the side of the 18-yard-box. Bryan placed her shot inside the left post in gave the Pride an early lead.
With the Tribe pushing forward, the Tribe got a break with an own goal in the 39th minute. A Hofstra defender tried to clear a W&M shot attempt but the back-spin on the ball caused a miss hit and it ended up in the back of the Pride goal to level the score.
The Pride found the winner in the 49th minute. Porter again started the play as she sent Miri Taylor free at the right side of 18. Taylor uncorked her shot into the left side of the net to give the Pride the go ahead goal.
W&M had a handful of late chances, but neither was on frame. Senior
Charlotte Hyland pushed her shot off of the post in the 54th minute, before Hofstra cleared a point-blank chance by junior
Courtney Miles in the 81st minute.
