W&M Beats Davidson, 5-0, on Snead's Record Day

The William & Mary field hockey team won its fourth in a row on a cold and rainy Sunday, beating Davidson 5-0 on the road.  The Tribe improved to 7-5 on the year, while the Wildcats fell to 2-12 overall.

How it Happened
- W&M came out of the gates firing early and often, and went ahead 2-0 in the first six minutes.
- At the end of the fourth minute, senior captain Annie Snead (Midlothian, Va.) had her shot deflected away, but junior Ella Donahue (Midlothian, Va.) was right there to collect the rebound and bury it in the back of the net for her first goal of the season.  For Snead, it was her 26th career assist, moving her past Emma Clifton '15 to stand all alone as W&M's career record holder.
- At the start of the seventh minute, the Tribe tacked on another.  Senior Woodard Hooper (Williamsburg, Va.) drove in along the baseline, and reminiscent of Friday night, found the open pass as the defense collapsed to her.  This time, it was junior Ashley Drum (Virginia Beach, Va.) standing all alone in front of the cage who collected the pass and shot it into the boards for her second goal in as many games.
- Davidson did a better job of earning possession in the second quarter, taking its only two shots in the game and its only penalty corner, but neither shot was on the mark.  Meanwhile, W&M took seven more shots in the second quarter, three of them on-target, and took four penalty corners, but likewise was held scoreless in the period.
- The third quarter was emphatically not scoreless, as the Tribe piled up three more goals on just five shots and three penalty corners.
- In the 36th minute, junior Caitlin Maclean (Devizes, Wiltshire, England) found Hooper with a pass and score near to the goalmouth, Hooper's team-leading fifth goal of the season, and Maclean's first point of the year.
- In the 42nd minute, it was Maclean's turn to score a goal, her first of the season, to put the Tribe up 4-0.  Freshman Grace Cornbrooks (Virginia Beach, Va.) drove the ball in towards the post, where she was confronted by three defenders and the goalkeeper.  She took a dribble away to pull the ball out of danger and set-up Maclean to dive into the middle of the scrum and poke the ball through the forest of legs and into the goal.  It was also the first career point for Cornbrooks.
- The final goal of the contest came just over a minute later out of a penalty corner.  Junior Melanie Strik (Den Haag, The Netherlands) struck the ball from the initial set up top, but her attempt deflected off the stick of a defender and fell to senior Cassidy Goodwin (Gloucester, Va.), who buried her shot into the netting for her third goal of the season.  Strik was credited with the assist for the first time in her career.
- W&M kept control throughout the fourth quarter, taking four more shots and four more corners, but did not need to add any more tallies en route to its fourth-straight win.
