W&M Men’s Soccer Announces Six-Member Incoming Recruiting Class

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's soccer head coach Chris Norris announced the addition of six student-athletes to the Tribe for the 2019 season. The group joining the Green and Gold program includes goalkeeper Kieran Baskett (Halifax, Nova Scotia/McDonogh (Md.), forward Alexander Levengood (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's), midfielder/forward Nathan Messer (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), forward Patrick "Diba" Nwegbo (Acworth, Ga./North Cobb), goalkeeper Will Stack (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood) and midfielder Marcos Villeda (Fairfax, Va./James W. Robinson).
 
"We are excited to announce the addition of these six young men," Norris said.  "They have all demonstrated the qualities required to succeed academically and athletically at William & Mary. In addition, we believe them to be people of high character who will enhance our program, department and campus community. Finally, we are encouraged by each individual's commitment to growth."
 
Here is a look at each member of the Tribe's incoming class:

A First Team All-State selection in 2018 … Played two seasons at McDonogh, helping them to back-to-back Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference Championships in 2017 and 2018 … Posted a 0.5 goals against average with 55 saves and 11 shutouts in helping McDonogh to a 20-2 record in 2017 … Totaled 130 saves with a GAA of 1.0 and seven shutouts in 2018 … Led a shootout upset of No. 1 Loyola Blakefield in the 2018 MIAA A championship game … Converted his penalty kick and then made a kick save in McDonogh's 7-6 shootout win … Tallied seven saves in the 100-minute scoreless game and stopped three in the penalty kick shootout … Played club soccer for Baltimore Celtic SC.

Son of Roger Baskett and Gillian Hamilton … Mother, Gillian, competed in the 1994 Winter Olympics for Canada in the biathlon … Enjoy table tennis, video games and spending time with his dogs.

"Kieran hails from Halifax, Nova Scotia, but has been in Baltimore the last two years. While in Baltimore, he has been an integral component for the Baltimore Celtic Soccer Club and McDonogh School. Kieran has all the qualities of a top goalkeeper. He possesses impressive size, length and athleticism. Kieran also reads the game well and is a good decision-maker. Meeting the demands of a modern goalkeeper, Kieran has excellent feet and an adept kicking game. Additionally, he is an explosive shot-stopper and deals with service competently. Kieran joins a young, talented goalkeeping corps and will battle for opportunities right away."

"Alexander joins us from the FC Richmond program and St. Christopher's School. He is a versatile attacking player, capable of leading the line or dropping deeper to play-make. Throughout his career, Alexander has shouldered much responsibility for scoring goals and creating chances for teammates. He combines good technique, a high soccer IQ and a tremendous will to win. Alexander also possesses the creativity to do the unexpected in key attacking moments. Finally, on and off the field, he has demonstrated the ability and willingness to lead. We are confident he will continue to do so in our program and on our campus. Alexander should have an immediate impact."

Nathan also possesses a high soccer IQ, combines well and is a good decision-maker. We expect Nathan to compete right away in wide areas."

Diba has consistently scored goals but is just as likely to turn provider. He has an opportunity to become an immediate difference-maker."

"Marcos is a member of the Braddock Road Youth Club 1999 team, where he won a National Championship alongside current Tribe player Ryan Powell. Marcos is a tough, all-action center midfielder. Capable of playing as a defensive or box-to-box center midfielder, he brings a versatile skillset. Defensively, Marcos reads the game well and is uncompromising. In possession, he is composed, clean and has a good passing range. Teammates love lining up next to Marcos and opponents hate playing against him. He will be a great fit for our program."
