BOSTON, Mass. – The William & Mary volleyball team saw three different players collect 10-plus kills, but Colonial Athletic Association foe Northeastern took the match with a 3-1 decision on Friday evening. Despite taking the first set, the Tribe (4-7, 0-2 CAA) was unable to sustain momentum as the Huskies (9-7, 2-1 CAA) claimed the next three.
A trio of
Kate Dedrick,
Julia Brown and
Claire Farrell powered the offensive effort. Dedrick paced the Tribe with 13 kills on the strength of a .313 attack rate. Brown need just 20 attempts to smash 12 kills, committing just five errors for a .350 hitting percentage. Farrell rounded out the bunch with 11 hammers.
The Green and Gold manufactured a late surge to take the opening set, hitting .333 for the early advantage. Trailing by two points, W&M rode the serve of freshman
Anne Louise Seekford to a 6-0 run in taking a 22-18 lead. Dedrick and senior
Katie Primatic spiked kills, before an NU error sealed the period.
However, the Huskies dominated the next two sets after claiming both periods with a combination of just three ties and one lead change.
The Tribe came out aggressive in the fourth set as senior
Katie Kemp found Dedrick for a 10-5 advantage. Nonetheless, the Huskies strung together a 5-1 spurt to pull even at 11-all. A couple of NU errors followed by a kill from rookie
Lauren Merrill provided the Green and Gold a slime 19-18 edge. Coming out of an immediate timeout, the Huskies outscored the Tribe 7-3 to prevent a fifth set.

Quotable
"We started great out of the gate - made smart plays and executed well. We just couldn't sustain the sharp play of set 1 for the match and need a more concerted effort moving forward to keep the momentum and control of the match on our side. We had pockets of bright spots, including
Lauren Merrill stepping into a more prominent role." – head coach
Tim Doyle
