Scouting the Tribe
The Tribe improved to 10-7 on the year thanks to a 4-3 win over East Carolina last week. Freshman Sebastian Quiros, who was named the CAA Player of the Week on Tuesday, clinched the win with a 7-5, 6-0 triumph over Javier Renones at No. 5 singles. It marked Quiros' fifth-straight win as he improved his team-best dual-match record to 11-4, while the setback was Renones' first of the season in dual-match play as he entered the match at 21-5 overall and 15-0 in duals. Half of the Tribe's 10 wins have come by narrow 4-3 scores. The Green and Gold captured the doubles point for the fourth match in a row, using the same combination with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Sophomore Brenden Volk and freshman Michael Chen improved to 4-1 with a win on line three. Senior Alec Miller and junior Tristan Bautil clinched the doubles point for the third time in the last four matches with their fourth win in a row at the top spot. Miller and Bautil were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week on March 20. Volk and senior Christian Cargill won in singles as well against the Pirates. Volk notched his first singles victory in the Green and Gold after transferring from Northwestern in January, while Cargill improved to 5-4 at No. 2 with his team-leading 16th singles win.
