Men's Tennis Bounces Blue Hens, 4-0, in the CAA Quarterfinals

ELON, N.C. – The William & Mary men's tennis team dominated its Colonial Athletic Association Quarterfinal on Friday morning at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, topping No. 8 seed Delaware, 4-0. The Tribe (12-10) easily won the doubles point, before receiving singles wins from freshman Finbar Talcott and seniors Christian Cargill and Lars de Boer to advance to Saturday's semifinals.

In doubles, sophomore Brenden Volk and freshman Michael Chen continued their strong play, winning for the eighth time in the last nine matches. The duo won its third in a row at the No. 2 spot, dropping just one game in a 6-1 triumph over Nathan Benyowitz and Laurenz Lankes, who entered the match at 13-2 in dual-match play. Cargill and freshman Louis Newman put the finishing touches on the initial point, besting Justice Jones and Curran Verma, 6-4, at the No. 3 position.

In singles, the Tribe wasted little time jumping out to a decisive advantage, taking the opening set at all six positions. Cargill, de Boer and Talcott each dropped just two games in posting victories. Talcott increased the Tribe lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0, win over Blaise Casselbury at the No. 5 spot.

Cargill blanked Delaware's Dustin Britton, 6-0, in the opening set, before rolling in the second, 6-2, for his 17th win of the season. Classmate Lars de Boer dropped just one game in each set to clinch the Tribe's passage into the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Justice Jones at No. 4.
