NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 5, 2018)—The William & Mary lacrosse team fell at Vanderbilt, 19-6, on Monday afternoon.
The contest was knotted at 2-2 midway through the first half, but the Commodores (4-1) scored the final six goals of the opening stanza and closed the game with a 9-1 run to earn the non-conference victory.
Tribe Standouts
Alexandria Specht led W&M (2-3) with three goals, while
Eloise Gagnon (2 goals) and
Anne Milwicz (goal) also found the back of the cage.
Goalie
Elsa Rall posted a career-high 11 saves for the second consecutive contest, as 10 of her stops came in the opening 30 minutes. The Fort Washington, Pa., native also added a career-high seven ground balls.
Annelise Kotz led the squad with a team-high five draw controls, while
Lindsay Koch posted three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Inside the Numbers
Vanderbilt outshot W&M, 47-19, and owned advantages in draw controls (14-11) and ground balls (31-26). Additionally, the Commodores committed nine fewer turnovers (21-12).
The Opposition
Melanie Becker (5g, 1a), Emily Mathewson (3g, 2a) and Gabrielle Fornia (2g, 3a) led Vanderbilt offensively, while Julie Blaze totaled a game-high five caused turnovers.
Notes
Specht's three-goal effort marked the third hat trick of her career … In addition to recording a career-high 11 saves in each of the last two games, Rall has posted 10 saves during the first stanza of both contests … Kotz's five draw controls increases her team-leading total to 19 … W&M is unbeaten at home this season (2-0) but is 0-3 on the road … Monday's contest marked the first ever meeting between W&M and Vanderbilt.
