Big First Half Lifts Tribe Lax Past Davidson, 12-9

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Feb. 25, 2018)—The William & Mary lacrosse team remained unbeaten at home and earned its second consecutive victory with a 12-9 win against Davidson at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Sunday afternoon.
 
Although W&M (2-1) utilized a pair of 4-0 runs to build a 9-4 advantage at halftime, the Wildcats (2-1) narrowed the margin to just two on a pair of occasions in the final frame. However, the Tribe held Davidson scoreless during the final 10:03 to preserve a hard-fought non-conference triumph.
 
Led by a quartet of Tribe standouts with two goals apiece, W&M utilized a balanced attack that included eight different players who found the back of the cage.
 
Tribe Standouts
Alexandria Specht (2g, 1), Abby Corkum (1g, 2a) and Eloise Gagnon (1g, 2a) all led W&M with three points apiece, while Danielle Palmucci, Cameron MacDonald and Maddie Torgerson all added two goals apiece. Gagnon's impressive stat line also included a team-high four ground balls to help the Green & Gold earn an 24-18 team advantage.
 
Annelise Kotz totaled a team-high three caused turnovers, while MacDonald and Anne Milwicz posted a team-best three draw controls apiece.  
 
Inside the Numbers
W&M enjoyed the five-goal margin at halftime after bookending the first half with a pair of 4-0 runs, as it held the Wildcats scoreless during the opening and closing 10 minutes of the first stanza.
 
Although Davidson opened the second half with a 3-0 run to narrow the margin to 9-7, W&M held the Wildcats to just two goals during the final 21:53.
 
The Tribe outshot Davidson, 34-20, and owned advantages in draw controls (12-11) and ground balls (24-18) while committing six fewer turnovers (14-20). W&M was especially effective on the draw circle during the opening 30 minutes when it held a 10-4 advantage. 
 
The Opposition
Shannon Blee led Davidson with three goals, while Christine Molinari added three points (1g, 2a). Natalie Junior and Sophia Sgroi posted four draw controls apiece. Goalie Rose Woolson totaled a game-high 14 saves.  
 
Notes
W&M improves to 6-1 all-time versus Davidson … The Tribe is now 70-20-1 all-time against teams currently in the Atlantic 10 … The Tribe is allowing just 4.3 goals in the second halves of games this season.
