Men's Soccer Falls in CAA Semifinals

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The William & Mary men's soccer team fell in the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Semifinals to league regular season champion James Madison, 2-0, on Friday night at Sentara Park. The setback snapped the Tribe's (6-10-2) five-match winning streak in the league semifinals that included wins over the top seed each of the last two seasons.

The Dukes (12-4-2) scored once in each half to advance to Sunday's CAA Championship match where the hosts will take on No. 3 seed  Hofstra. Carson Jeffris started the scoring in the 36th minute on a strike from 18 yards out to give JMU a 1-0 halftime cushion.

W&M increased the pressure in the early stages of the second half, but JMU doubled its lead in the 56th minute. Jeffris set up Tom Judge who finished with his left foot from 12 yards out to increase the Dukes lead to 2-0.

How it Happened
- W&M's best chance of the opening half came in the 19th minute. Junior Reeves Trott flipped the field with a long pass toward the top side of the 18. Senior Ryder Bell collected and made a move, but his shot toward the near post from 10 yards out was blocked by a JMU defender.
- In the 36th minute, Manuel Ferriol set up Jeffris to put JMU on the board. Ferriol send a leading ball toward the top of the 18 from the center of midfield. Jeffris collected and cut back along the top of the 18, before finishing to the upper right corner of the frame for his seventh goal of the season.
- The Tribe started the second half with some pressure. Junior Reeves Trott battled off a JMU defender and carried to the endline before sending a dangerous cross into that was cleared away. On the ensuing throw-in, senior Remi Frost's volley off a JMU failed clearance in the 47th minute went just wide of the left post from 18 yards out.
- The Dukes broke through with its second goal in the 56th minute. Tom Judge and Jeffris played give-and-go 30 yards from goal. Jeffris' pass led Judge into the penalty area, and the Dukes' sophomore defender finished with his left foot into the right side of the frame.
