Volleyball Celebrates Senior Day in Season Finale against UNCW

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary volleyball team received a plethora of standout senior day performances, but came up just short in a 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-21) decision against UNCW on Sunday. The Tribe (5-20, 1-15 CAA) had three different players record a double-double in its season finale with the Seahawks (15-11, 8-8 CAA).

W&M stormed out to an 11-1 advantage in the opening set after scoring eight unanswered points. Junior Casey Foote and sophomore Julia Brown highlighted the start with two kills and two blocks apiece. Foote blasted two more kills as part of a 5-0 jolt to lift W&M to a 20-9 lead. UNCW rallied to narrow the deficit to 24-20, before freshman Lauren Merrill blasted the set-winner.

The Seahawks responded by taking the next two sets. In the fourth period, W&M made a hard push to force a fifth game. A run of six consecutive points gave the Tribe a tight 11-10 lead. Late in the frame, Kendall Bender and Jaime Thomas combined for a block to put UNCW ahead, 21-18. A backcourt kill from Foote followed by an ace from freshman Anne Louise Seekford sliced it to a 23-21 Seahawks' lead. However, a kill each from UNCW's Maddy Kline and Kyla Augustine completed the four-set win.

Inside the Numbers
- Foote (13 kills, 17 digs), Merrill (20 kills, 13 digs) and senior Katie Kemp (39 assists, 13 digs) all finished with a double-double.
- Sophomore Lauren Moussaid led all players with a career-high 29 digs.
- Brown collected 11 kills, four blocks and an ace.
- The Seahawks combined for just five attack errors across the second and third sets.
- UNCW owned a 11-7 advantage in aces and out blocked W&M 13-6.
