Kate Dedrick, Claire Farrell Lead Volleyball against James Madison

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Sophomore Kate Dedrick and freshman Claire Farrell shared the match-high in kills as the William & Mary volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-18) verdict to in-state and conference rival James Madison on Monday evening. Dedrick and Farrell blasted 13 kills each for the Tribe (5-10, 1-5 CAA), but the Dukes (14-3, 6-0 CAA) hit .343 as a team to remain perfect in league play.
 
Despite dropping the first set by nine points, the Green and Gold opened the contest with a .243 attack percentage, committing just three errors across 37 attempts. Dedrick got off to a hot start with six kills in the frame. However, W&M was unable to recover from an eight-point deficit in the early stages of the period.
 
The Green and Gold was at its best in the second period, blasting an impressive 16 kills during the stanza. This time it was Farrell with six kills in a set. The rookie standout capped a 5-1 sprint with back-to-back kills to open game two. Dedrick was responsible for three straight point after spiking back-to-back kills, before assisting on a block as the Tribe went up 14-10. Regardless, JMU rallied back with six unanswered points to take a 21-18 advantage. Following a home team timeout, the Dukes' defense would surrender just four more points in claiming the set.
 
JMU kept its foot on the gas pedal in game three after posting a .400 attack percentage. At the mid-point, freshman Lauren Merrill pounded a kill and Dedrick followed up with two more to pull the Tribe within one at 12-11. The Dukes then responded with a 4-0 jolt and never let the Tribe get any closer.
 
Inside the Numbers
- Dedrick recorded the most efficient effort for the Tribe with a .310 hitting clip.
- Both Merrill (13) and sophomore Lauren Moussaid (10) tallied 10-plus digs.
- As a team, JMU committed only nine attack errors through 102 attempts
- The Dukes held a 7-to-3 advantage in blocks

Farrell has registered 10-plus kills in 7 of 15 matches…Dedrick has hit over .300 for the sixth time….Merrill accumulated a season-best in digs…Senior Katie Kemp has served an ace in three consecutive matches…Junior Autumn Brenner needs only 13 more assissts to move to eighth all-time in program history.
