Late Goal Sparks Men's Soccer to Road Win at Delaware

NEWARK, Del. – Senior Antonio Bustamante scored in the 88th minute, and fifth-year senior Sam Onyeador made it stand as the William & Mary men's soccer team claimed a Colonial Athletic Association road win at Delaware, 1-0, on Saturday night. The Tribe (3-7-2, 1-2-2 CAA) picked up a big three points in the league standings and snapped Delaware's (4-9, 3-3 CAA) six-match unbeaten streak in the series.

With the match scoreless in the closing minutes, freshman John Eberle started the counterattack for W&M and sent the ball wide to senior Ryder Bell. The Tribe striker played a nicely weighted ball into the 18-yard box where Bustamante ran onto it. The All-American slotted it home past a UD defender and inside the left post from eight yards out for the winner.

Onyeador, who finished with a career-high five saves, came up with two big saves in the final two minutes. He smothered a Noa Benninga free kick from 25 yards out down in the 89th minute, before knocking down a Soren Frost liner from 20 yards out in the closing seconds.

Quotable
"We are thrilled to get the three points tonight. It was not our sharpest performance, but the guys worked extremely hard and really tried to execute the plan. In the end, two of our special players, Ryder and Antonio, had moments of quality and that was the difference. I'm also really pleased for Sam Onyeador in goal. He came up big when called upon and deserved the shutout." – W&M Head Coach Chris Norris
