WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Despite a number of chances, the William & Mary women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Big Ten foe Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. Junior
Mackenzie Kober scored the Tribe's lone goal on the afternoon. W&M dropped to 4-2 on the year, while Wisconsin improved to 5-1.
Wisconsin struck first in the 10th minute. Dani Rhodes sent a low cross from the left flank, and Lauren Rice got a foot to it to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Badgers doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, and it was again Rhodes factoring into the goal. Maia Cella's cross from the left flank found the head of Rhodes, who nodded it in from six yards out.
W&M pulled one back before the half in the 40th minute. Sophomore
Sully Boulden made a nice individual play up the sidelines beating Wisconsin defender Payton Wesley. Boulden balled the Badger off the ball and then beat her along the right endline to gain space. Her perfected placed pass found the foot of Kober, who finished with a hard shot into the right side of the goal under the UW goalkeeper.
Wisconsin extended its lead back to two goals, scoring off a free kick in the 55th minute. Rice took the attempt and placed it on frame, but sophomore
Katelyn Briguglio couldn't had the hot shot and it ended up in the back of the net. It was Rice's second goal of the match.
The Tribe had a number of chances, especially in the second half. W&M had a 13th minute Kober goal negated by offsides. In the 67th minute, senior
Elysse Branton made a nice run through the midfield and earned a penalty kick, but senior
Rachel Moore sent the chance just wide.
