Bo Morris Joins Tribe Men’s Gymnastics Coaching Staff

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Aug. 31, 2017)—William & Mary men's gymnastics head coach Mike Powell has announced the hiring of Bo Morris as an assistant coach.
 
A nationally respected member of the USA Gymnastics community, Morris has been in the coaching profession for more than 30 years and helped numerous gymnasts compete at the highest levels of the sport, including U.S. National Teams.

With his proven track record developing athletes, his knowledge of the sport, and his experience running some of the biggest events in gymnastics, we are excited to see the impact Bo will have here at William & Mary." 
 
Morris comes to the Tribe after serving as head coach at the Houston Gymnastics Center in Houston, Texas. In addition to leading the boys team to many accolades at the state, regional and national levels, he also served as the Houston National Invitational (HNI) men's meet director for the past eight years. The prestigious event is one of the largest and most renowned men's gymnastics meets in the country.
 
Morris' impressive resumé includes a seven-year stint as Louisiana Men's State Chairman, while he was also a member of the Texas Executive Committee for 12 years and the Region 3 Chairman for three years. Additionally, he hosted and directed many state and regional championship competitions and served on the Region 3 Elite Team coaching staff for 15 years.
 
As program manager for USA Gymnastics for five years, Morris was responsible for implementing and administrating the men's program and oversaw all aspects of the Men's Junior Olympic Program. Those responsibilities included support for the U.S. Championships, 2004 Olympic Team Trials, Winter Cup, Junior Olympic National Championships, 2003 World Championships, U.S. Qualifier and Future Stars National Championships. Additionally, he worked with the state and regional chairmen to implement the USA Gymnastics programs in their areas.
 
Highlighting Morris' list of impressive honors is the Frank Cumiskey Service Award, which he received at the 2007 JO National Championship. The prestigious accolade is the highest honor awarded to a USA Gymnastics Professional Member and recognized his efforts with the Men's Junior Olympic Program.
 
Morris also garnered the Region 3 Robert Cowan Award in 2014, which recognized his outstanding contributions to Region 3.
 
Morris' extensive and wide-ranging experience also includes owning his own gym club, working as a club head coach and serving as the program director at several private gym clubs.
 
Morris holds a National Coaches Certification from USAG and has been a NGJA nationally rated judge for most of his career.
 
Morris earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Louisiana Tech University.
 
He and his wife, Deb, have a sweet Labrador Retriever, Buddy, and will reside in Williamsburg.
