PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The William & Mary men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Penn on Sunday afternoon. The Green and Gold (6-8) jumped out of the gates, taking the doubles point, but the Quakers (12-6) rallied by winning all six singles spots to post the victory.
 
The Tribe claimed the initial point of the match with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. At the top spot, senior Addison Appleby and sophomore Tristan Bautil upended Nicholas Podesta and Nicholai Westergaard, 6-4, to even their record at 5-5. It was the duo's first win at the top spot. Teaming together for the first time, the junior tandem of Ryan Newman and Lars de Boer topped Josh Pompan and Thomas Spratt, 6-3, at the third post.
 
The Quakers responded with straight-set wins at the top five singles positions to cement the team triumph. At the sixth spot, Bautil dropped a three-set tilt to Gabe Rapoport. After the Quaker junior won the opening set, 6-1, the Tribe sophomore answered with a 6-4 win in the second. Rapoport held off Bautil, 10-6, in the third-set super tiebreaker.
 
W&M returns to Williamsburg to open up a regular season-ending six-match homestand. The Tribe hosts Xavier on Saturday, March 18. The match carries a 1 p.m. start time at the Millie West Tennis Facility, weather permitting.
