NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The William & Mary men's tennis team opened a four-match road trip with a 7-0 setback at Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon. The setback snapped the Tribe's three-match winning streak as W&M fell to 3-2, while Notre Dame improved to 3-2.

The Irish claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Josh Hagar and
Jonathan Small gave Notre Dame the early lead with a 6-1 win over senior

Christian Cargill at the third position. At the top spot, the Irish's Grayson Broadus and Brendon Kempin just edged senior
Aidan Talcott and junior
Ryan Newman, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point.

Notre Dame won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. The Irish posted wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles to increase its lead to 3-0, before Broadus clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over junior
Alec Miller at No. 4.

Talcott and junior
Lars de Boer dropped a pair of close matches at No. 1 and No. 5, while senior
Addison Appleby fell in a three-set battle. At the top spot in a match-up of nationally-ranked players, Hager, who is No. 27 in the country, won the opening set from Talcot, 6-0, before the No. 72-ranked Tribe player forced a second-set tiebreaker. Hagar pulled out the win with a 7-5 victory in the tiebreaker. de Boer battled Guillermo Cabrera to a 6-4, 6-4 result at No. 5.

Appleby claimed the opening set from Notre Dame's Matt Gamble in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7) at No. 3. The Irish player rallied to take the second set, 6-3, and outlasted his Tribe counterpart in the third-set super tiebreaker, 10-7.

The Tribe returns to action with its second match in the Hoosier State on Sunday. W&M travels to reigning Horizon League Champion Valparaiso for a noon contest.
