Women's Basketball Closes Weekend With Sunday Clash at First-Place Elon

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William & Mary women's basketball team heads south in search of a victory against first-place Elon on Sunday, Feb. 19. Tip time for the Tribe and Phoenix is set for 2 p.m.

Opening Tip
The William & Mary women's basketball team will look to even its weekend record as it hits the road to take on first-place Elon on Sunday afternoon in North Carolina. W&M dropped the weekend opener 71-69 in overtime to the College of Charleston in Williamsburg on Friday night. The Green and Gold and Elon meet for the 10th time in series history in Sunday's matinee.
 
Last Time Out
The William & Mary women's basketball team dropped an overtime game to College of Charleston 71-69 on Friday night at Kaplan Arena. Junior Abby Rendle scored a season-high 18 points as she set the single-season school record for blocked shots adding four to sit 89 for the season. Senior Alexandra Masaquel notched her seventh double-double of the season on 16 points and 13 rebounds, while classmate Latrice Hunter added 15 points and three rebounds. Despite struggling from the field, senior Marlena Tremba neared a triple-double in the setback scoring six points, grabbing nine rebounds, and had a career-high 10 assists.
 
Scouting the Phoenix
Elon is currently tied for first place in the CAA and are looking to move its winning streak to two games as they host W&M on Sunday afternoon. The Phoenix own a 20-6 mark and are 12-2 in the CAA. For the season, Elon is just a shade under 70 points per game at 69.9, and only surrenders 59.8 points per game. Shay Burnett leads a trio of players in double-figures at 12.4 points per game. Lauren Brown is just off of the pace at 11.8 points a game, while Jenifer Rhodes rounds them out at 10.3 points per night. On the glass, the Phoenix control 41.7 rebounds a game. Burnett leads the team in that category as well with 7.4 per game. Malaya Johnson is the second leading rebounder at 6.3 a game. Charlotte Smith is in her sixth season at the helm of Elon. The former North Carolina standout owns a 106-76 record during her time with the Phoenix.
 
Series History
The Green and Gold and Elon meet for the 10th time in series history in Sunday's matinee. Today's game closes the season series as the Phoenix picked up a 60-58 victory over the Tribe in Williamsburg back in January. Elon leads the all-time series by a 6-3 mark, including winning all five matchups since joining the CAA. In the first game of the series, junior Abby Rendle led three Tribe players in double-figures with 13 points, eight rebounds, five blocks and four steals. Senior Marlena Tremba and sophomore Bianca Boggs each finished with 10 points. Senior Alexandra Masaquel finished just shy of a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
 
The Road Ahead
W&M returns to Williamsburg as they open the final weekend of the regular season against UNCW on Friday, Feb. 24. The game will serve as the Tribe's senior night and will tip at 7 p.m. The Green and Gold's final road game of the regular season will be at James Madison on Sunday, Feb. 26. That game carries a 5 p.m. tip and will be televised on the American Sports Network.
