LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Feb. 11, 2017)—The William & Mary men's gymnastics team earned its second-consecutive dual meet victory with a 394.7 – 376.95 triumph against Illinois-Chicago at the Peach Tree Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
In addition to winning all six events, W&M posted season highs on floor (67.1) and vault (69.8).
Tribe gymnasts also posted a number of outstanding individual performances, as five different W&M standouts claimed event titles.
Although it was the lone event in which a Tribe gymnast did not win an individual title, W&M posted a season-high 67.1 on floor. Freshman
Tim O'Neill placed second with a career-best 13.8, while senior
Aria Sabbagh was third with a 13.55.
Tribe gymnasts earned the top three spots on pommel horse to help the squad record a 62.2. Sophomore
Jacopo Gliozzi won the event with a 14.1 and was followed by senior
Rob Meyer (13.25) and junior
Griffin Antle (12.4).
Meyer registered the top score on rings (13.8), while junior
Jeremiah McReynolds and sophomore
Peter Makey tied for third (13.5) as the Tribe totaled a 66.65. Makey's score represented a season high.
W&M's season-high 69.8 on vault was fueled by a 1-2-3 finish, as O'Neill (14.3), junior
Juan Palma (14.2) and senior
Nick Van Dyke (14.0) claimed the top three spots. O'Neill's impressive mark ties for fifth in the program's record book, while Palma's outstanding effort came during his season debut.
Meyer won parallel bars with a 13.9, while McReynolds and freshman
Tomas Palma tied for third with a 13.35. The solid performances helped the team earn a 66.55 in the event.
Senior
Neal Courter claimed the high bar title by equaling a season high (13.35), while Sabbagh placed third with a 12.45 en route to helping W&M tally a 62.4.
Sabbagh (75.65) and sophomore
Jack Hasenkopf (73.6) were the meet's lone all-around competitors.
The Tribe will return to action when it travels to Army for a tri-meet with Springfield on Feb. 25.
