WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's basketball team closed non-conference play with an 80-74 overtime setback to Hampton Roads rival Norfolk State on Thursday afternoon in Kaplan Arena. With the loss, the Tribe ends a seven game winning streak and falls to 9-2, while the Spartans win their fourth straight and improve to 6-5.
Norfolk State scored the first five points of overtime and didn't relinquish the lead. Kayla Roberts hit a long three as the shot clock was expiring, before adding a jumper to make it 73-68 with 3:52 left in the extra session. Senior
Jenna Green answered with four straight points to cut it to one, but Norfolk State hit 7-of-8 from the stripe to secure the 80-74 victory.
Trailing by six at the end of the third quarter, W&M used 12-4 run to regain the lead for the first time in the second half with 6:41 left in the quarter. Sophomore
Victoria Reynolds opened the rally with a lay-up, before senior
Abby Rendle converted a traditional 3-point play. After a NSU basket, Green canned a jumper, but the Spartans answered it. Junior
Bianca Boggs tied the score with a traditional 3-point play, before Rendle closed the run with a lay-up making it 57-55. The game went back and forth for the remainder of regulation, before Boggs hit a lay-up with 21 seconds left to tie the score and the Tribe held the Spartans scoreless on the final possession of regulation to force overtime.
Leading by three, the Spartans used an 8-3 run to build its largest lead of the game in the third quarter. Roberts started the rally with a free throw, before Khadedra Croker added a free throw and a jumper. After Boggs 3-pointer, Roberts added four points in a row to make it 44-36 midway through the period.
The Tribe used a 6-0 run in the first quarter to build its largest lead of the game. Boggs opened the spurt with a jumper, before Rendle and Pollard connected on baskets to make it 14-6 with 5:39 left in the first quarter.

Bianca Boggs led all scores and four Tribe players in double-figures with 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting. She added five rebounds, four assists, one block, and one steal. Senior

Abby Rendle had 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and two blocks and steals. Sophomore
Victoria Reynolds rounded out the double-figure scorers with 13 points eight rebounds, a block, and three steals.
Kayla Roberts scored a team-high 21 points for Norfolk State adding seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Khadedra Crocker scored 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and had three assists and blocks. Yazmen Hannah added 12 points off of the bench, while Raven Russell had 10 points and seven boards.
Inside the Numbers
- W&M shot less the 45-percent for the first time in the last three games. The Tribe finished the game 29-of-65 from the floor (44.6-percent).
- Norfolk State controlled the rebounding battle, 44-34. It was the first time this season the Tribe has lost when losing the rebounding.
- Once again, the Green and Gold had, at least, 20 assists with 20. Senior
