WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's basketball team limited Fairfield to just 17 second half points and picked up its second straight victory with a 57-47 triumph in its home opener at Kaplan Arena on Tuesday night. With the win, the Tribe improves to 2-0 for the second time in three seasons, while the Stags fall to 0-2.
After trading threes to start the game, the Tribe used a 7-0 run to pull out to an early lead. Senior

Bianca Boggs scored a traditional 3-point play, and freshman
Nyla Pollard drove the length of the court for a lay-up to cap the sequence. Fairfield battled back though, and evened the contest at 12 late in the quarter, but sophomore
Nari Garner hit a triple to give the Green and Gold a 15-12 lead to end the first.
Trailing 27-19 midway through the second quarter Fairfield used an 11-0 run to take a three-point advantage into the locker room. Sam Lewis and Sam Kramer hit back-to-back 3-pointers, before Kristen McLaughin added a triple to give the Stags their first lead. Samantha Cooper closed the half with a pair of free throws that allowed Fairfield to take a 30-27 advantage.
W&M responded in the third quarter by outscoring the Stags 16-4 in the stanza and never looked back. The Tribe opened the half with a 7-0 run and never relinquished the lead. Boggs started the period with a triple, before Green hit a jumper to regain W&M's lead. Senior
Abby Rendle closed the run with a lay-up to make it 34-30.
The Green and Gold extended its lead to as many as 13 points late in the fourth quarter. Fairfield made one last run to cut it 53-47 with 48 seconds, but Garner and Green both sunk a pair of free throws to make the final 57-47.

Jenna Green notched her first career double-double and nearly missed a triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. Classmate
Abby Rendle rounded out the double-figure scores with a double-double of 10 points, 13 boards and seven rejections.
Samantha Cooper led the Stags with her second straight double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Khadidatou Diof added 10 points and Sam Kramer finished with 12 points were also in double-figurers for Fairfield.
Inside the Numbers
- The Tribe was solid defensively, forcing Fairfield to shoot 26% (16-of-61) from the field. William & Mary also held Fairfield to only four points in the third period.
- W&M forced Fairfield into 21 turnovers and through two games have pressured its opponents into 52 turnovers.
- The Green and Gold out rebounded Fairfield 42-40 to win the rebound battle for the first time this season. The Tribe is 16-3 the last 19 times it has won or tied the rebounding battle.
