Men's Basketball Drops Season Opener at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The William & Mary men's basketball team suffered a season-opening 100-66 setback at High Point on Friday night. The Panthers shot 60.7 percent from the floor to outdistance the Tribe.

Both teams started hot as W&M hit six of first eight shots. Senior guard David Cohn scored the Tribe's first five points and found sophomore Justin Pierce for a 3-pointer at the 15:50 mark to give W&M a 15-12 lead. Cohn factored in five of the Tribe's first six made field goals, adding three assists to his five points.

On the other side, High Point made nine of first 10 shots and used an 11-0 run to open up a double-digit lead. Andre Fox scored the first eight of the run to jumpstart the Panthers. Jahaad Proctor's 3-pointer at the 11:35 mark extended the margin to 26-16 and forced a W&M timeout.

The Tribe closed to within six, 36-30, on a pair of Pierce free throws with five minutes left in the half. High Point responded with a 10-2 run and led by 12 at the break. The Panthers scored the first seven points of the second half and never looked back.
