Volleyball Outlasted by Charleston, 3-1

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Both senior Sydney Biniak and junior Heather Pippus recorded double-digit kills as the William & Mary volleyball team fell to Colonial Athletic Association second-ranked College of Charleston, 3-1 (25-21, 25-10, 22-25, 25-15), on Sunday afternoon in Kaplan Arena. Biniak drilled a team-high 12 kills and Pippus tallied another 10 to pace the Tribe (4-18, 1-7 CAA) in its conference clash with the Cougars (18-4, 7-1 CAA).
 
After going down 2-0 in the match, W&M registered a .353 attack percentage to edge CofC in the third set. The frame was highlighted by five kills each from team captains Pippus and Biniak. Charleston's Krissy Mummy tied the match at 15-all on kill, before the Tribe ignited a 5-1 rally to pull ahead, 20-16. The Cougars rallied to pull even again, 21-all, but the Green and Gold sparked a 4-1 finish that was capped by a Biniak hammer to take the stanza.
 
However, Charleston produced a game-high 18 kills and hit .324 to claim the fourth set by a double-digit margin. The Tribe opened up the frame with a two-point advantage, before the Cougars scored seven straight points, taking a 9-3 lead. Following a kill by sophomore Casey Foote, CofC scored four unanswered to put the game out of reach at 13-4.
  
Inside the Numbers
- The Green and Gold finished the four-set tussle with 11 blocks.  The team has collected at least eight stops in its last five matches.
- Freshman Julia Brown rejected a team-high seven attacks to go along with eight kills (.500 attack percentage) and four digs.
- Rookie Kate Dedrick assisted on a season-best six stuffs, while also crushing nine kills and hitting .444.
- Junior Katie Kemp concluded the match with a double-double behind 24 assists and 10 digs.  
- Senior Sara Zumbach led the Tribe with 15 digs and also served a pair of aces in back-to-back contests.
- The second set saw a game-high 14 ties and five lead changes. 

Notes
Biniak is just two away from joining the 1,000 career kills club…CofC advances its all-time series lead over W&M to 9-1…Kemp's double-double marks her fourth of 2017…Brown's season total of 13 solo blocks ties seventh in the 25-point record books...Biniak has totaled 17 performances with 10-plus kills this year…Dedrick has hit over .400 in four contests.
