Women's Basketball Rounds Out Road Trip at Towson Friday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's basketball team rounds out it two-game road trip and four out of five away from home to start league play as they travel to Towson on Friday, Jan. 22. Tip time between the Tribe and the Tigers is set for 7 p.m.

Opening Tip
The William & Mary women's basketball team looks to make it three in a row as they travel to Towson for a Colonial Athletic Association match-up on Friday, Jan. 20. Tonight starts another split CAA weekend for the Tribe, which returns home to face Elon on Sunday, Jan. 22. The Green and Gold meets Towson for the 28th time in series history tonight.
 
Last Time Out
Four players scored in double-figures and the defense limited UNCW to just four field goals in the first and fourth quarters as the William & Mary women's basketball team topped UNCW 57-43 at Trask Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Bianca Boggs scored a game-high 13 points, added three rebounds, two assists, two blocks and four steals. Senior Alexandra Masaquel scored 12 points, which was her 10th straight game in double-figures. The senior added four rebounds, and four steals. Senior Marlena Tremba had 11 points, while freshman Victoria Reynolds chipped in 10 points off of the bench.
 
Scouting the Tigers
Towson enters Friday's contest looking to move their winning streak to two games as they host the Tribe. The Tigers enter the game at 9-7, 2-3 in league action. TU is averaging 65.7 points per contest. Raven Bankston leads the way averaging 16.9 points. Sianni Martin is the only other player in double-figures with 15.3 points. On the glass, Towson is bringing home 37.4 rebounds a night. Jordyn Smith leads the team with 5.6. Just off of the pace is Mary Cuevas with 5.1. Niki Reid Geckeler is in her fourth season at Towson. She owns a 40-69 mark with the Tigers and a 125-144 record in her nine years as a collegiate head coach.
 
Series History
The Green and Gold meets Towson for the 28th time in series history Friday night. It is the first of two meetings this season as the Tigers return to Williamsburg for a game on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. The Tribe leads the all-time series 16-11, including taking two of the three meetings. However, the Tigers won the last meeting, 71-65, in the CAA opening round. Last season, senior Marlena Tremba led the Tribe in the series by averaging 22.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in the three games. She just missed a triple-double in the CAA Tournament going for a career-high 29 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists. Classmate Alexandra Masaquel was also in double-figures averaging 19.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in the three contests.
 
The Road Ahead
W&M returns home and opens a season-long three-game homestand as they welcome current first-place team Elon on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. Next weekend the homestand continues as the Tribe welcomes Delaware on Friday, Jan. 27, before welcoming defending league champion James Madison on Sunday, Jan. 29. Tip times are set for 7 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
 
Grand Larceny
The Tribe forced a season-high 17 steals in the win at UNCW on Jan. 15. The 17 steals are the most since the Tribe forced 17 steals against Norfolk State on Dec. 17, 2015. Senior Alexandra Masaquel, junior Abby Rendle, and sophomore Bianca Boggs each had four steals to pace the team's effort.
