Women's Soccer Cruises to 5-0 Exhibition Win Over Liberty

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's soccer team picked up a 5-0 victory in its lone exhibition against Liberty on Friday night at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. Senior Haley Kavanaugh, junior Rachel Moore, redshirt freshman Sarah Segan (twice), and sophomore Mackenzie Kober all scored for the Green and Gold. Sophomore Claire Robbins had a pair of assists in the victory as well.

Both teams traded early corner kicks and chances in the opening minutes of the match. Senior Kady Kriner had the first shot of the night for the Tribe in the fourth minute, before Liberty's Caroline Boone fired a pair of shots in the seventh and eighth minutes.

The Tribe jumped on the board with a goal in the 15th minute. Junior Haley Kent dropped a pass off for Kriner on the left side of the pitch. Kriner raced to the endline and sent a cross that found the foot of a cutting Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh redirected the ball into the left corner of the net for the goal.

W&M continued to mount its pressure over the next 10 minutes, and eventual found its second goal in 35th minute. Robbins sent a long through ball that sprung Moore into a one-versus-one with keeper. The junior placed her shot perfectly into the right corner of the net for the tally.

The second half started with a quick outburst and another Tribe goal. Just four minutes into the period junior Sami Grasso sent Segan on a run into the box. Segan fired into the right corner of the net to score the Tribe's third tally of the night.

In the 68th minute, W&M connected on its fourth goal of the match. Robbins won the ball on the right side of the penalty area. She sent a ball to the middle of the box that allowed Kober to get some steam behind it, and place into the lower corner.

The final Tribe tally came in the 79th minute, as Segan collected her second tally of the night. Moore got the ball and started the break, before dishing off to the redshirt freshman. Segan finished the run with her shot that deflected off of the keeper and into the lower left of the goal.

Redshirt junior Grace Smith earned the starting nod in net for the Green and Gold. She played the first 72 minutes and made one stop. Freshman Katelyn Briguglio played the final 18 minutes and also recorded a save.

The College opens the regular season next week on Friday, Aug. 19 at East Carolina. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The Tribe starts the home portion of the schedule with a pair of matches on Thursday Aug. 25 against Maryland, before welcoming DePaul on Sunday, Aug. 28. Those matches are set for 7 p.m. and 1 p.m. kickoffs, respectively.
