Daniel Powers Keeps Tribe Alive With a Complete Game 5-1 Win Over No. 5 Northeastern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Junior Daniel Powers turned in his first career complete game as he pushed the William & Mary baseball team to the loser's bracket finals with a 5-1 victory over No. 5-seeded Northeastern on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Tribe improves to 26-29, while Northeastern concludes its season at 31-26.

Powers allowed just one run, while scattering six hits in his team-best eighth win of the season. He also matched a career-high with six punchouts in the win.

Offensively, sophomore Cullen Large led the Tribe going 2-for-2 on the afternoon, with two runs scored. Senior Josh Smith also collected two hits, while he drove in two runs.

William & Mary jumped the board with three runs in the bottom of the third inning, and never looked back. Sophomore Ryan Hall led off the inning with single, but was forced out a fielder's choice. The next batter, Large singled, but it put runners on second and third on an overthrow. A groundout by senior Charley Gould opened the game's scoring. After a walk to freshman Hunter Smith, Josh Smith belted a two-out triple to the left centerfield gap, giving W&M a 3-0 lead.

The Tribe added two more runs without the benefit of a hit in the bottom of fifth. Back-to-back walks to junior Ryder Miconi and Large followed by a wild pitch put runners on a second and third with an out. A sacrifice fly from Hunter Smith scored the first run, before a wild pitch made the score 5-0.

Northeastern got on the board with its first run in the top of the sixth inning. Charlie McConnell led off the inning with a single, but the Tribe followed it with a double play. Three singles in a row from Cam Hannley, Cam Walsh, and Josh Treff, cut the W&M lead to 5-1.

Andrew Misiaszek was saddled with the loss for Northeastern. He went three innings allowing three runs on four hits, while he struck out three. Hanley led the offense with a pair of hits, while Walsh drove in the Huskies' lone run.

W&M advances to the loser's bracket finals and will have a rematch with the No. 6-seeded College of Charleston. First pitch is set for tonight set for 7 p.m.
