WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary men's tennis team opened the home portion of its schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Big South favorite Coastal Carolina and Howard on Sunday at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis. W&M (3-2) started the day with a 6-1 triumph over the Chanticleers (1-1), before closing it out with a 7-0 win over the Bison (0-6).
The Green and Gold captured the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 to start things off against Coastal Carolina. Junior

Lars de Boer continued their winning ways at the No. 2 post, dispatching of Jabor Al-Mutawa and Sebastian Schneider, 6-3. Teaming together for the first time in 2016, sophomore

Damon Niquet clinched the initial point of the match by a matching 6-3 score over Luiz Faria and Pedro Leme at No. 3.
The bottom half of the Tribe singles lineup took care of the Chants in relatively quick fashion to cement the team victory. Junior
Aidan Talcott notched his third straight win, rolling to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Rick Timmerman at No. 5. de Boer dropped just three games in bouncing Francesco Migliano, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4 to increase the Green and Gold advantage to 3-0. He pushed his dual-match ledger to 3-1 and his season mark to 7-6. After a Coastal Carolina win at No. 2, Niquet clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Pedro Leme at the sixth spot.
At the top position, Cargill downed Vuk Velickovic in straight sets. The Tribe sophomore came on strong in the first-set tiebreaker to pick up the victory, 7-6 (3), before routing his Chanticleer counterpart, 6-0, in the second set. Sophomore
Alec Miller rounded out the Tribe victory over Coastal with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Sebastian Schneider at No. 3.
In the nightcap with Howard, W&M dialed up the same doubles combinations and came away with a sweep. Senior

Ryan Newman bounced Ismael Kaouache and William Jones III at the top spot, 6-1, for their first win as a tandem, while Appleby and de Boer improved to 4-1 at No. 2 with a 6-2 triumph over Hawkins Owens IV and Laguna Foster, Jr. Cargill and Niquet rounded out the sweep, upending Spencer Kelly and Myron Davis, 6-2, at No. 3. The duo improved to 9-1 as a combo over the last two years.
Cargill, Miller, Talcott and Niquet completed perfect singles days with straight-sets wins against the Bison. Cargill upped his mark at No. 1 singles to 3-2, dropping just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kaouache.
Miller bumped up a spot from the morning to No. 2 singles and rolled past Jones III, 6-1, 6-2. He picked up his team-leading 10 singles win of the year. Talcott remained unblemished in dual-match competition, ousting Davis, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3. He improved to 8-6 overall. Niquet tallied his fifth victory on the year, downing Owens IV, 6-2, 6-1, at the fifth spot.
After combining for the win at No. 1 doubles, Newman and Huang picked up singles victories in their first individual action of the day. Newman posted his first singles triumph as a member of the Green and Gold, knocking off Foster, Jr., 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4, while Huang conceded just two games at No. 6 in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kelly. It was Huang's fifth singles wins of the year.
The Tribe continues its homestand with a pair of matches next weekend. The Green and Gold hosts another Big South foe in Radford on Friday, Feb. 5, at 3 p.m. W&M closes out the weekend against its fourth Ivy League foe of the year in Penn on Sunday, Feb. 7, at 9 a.m.
