The Tribe (3-4) led by 10 at the half behind 55.6 percent shooting, but the Pirates (2-6) scored 45 second-half points and converted 21 W&M turnovers into 27 points.
Prewitt finished with 21 points, his third-straight 20-point outing, along with 11 rebounds for his second double-double in a row. He also had a team-best five assists. Junior

W&M jumped out of the gates, scoring the game's first four points. Prewitt found junior
Jack Whitman for a dunk, and a
David Cohn steal on the ensuing possession led to a fast-break lay-up for a 4-0 lead less than a minute into the contest. The Tribe advantage jumped to 21-14 after Prewitt fed ahead to freshman
Nathan Knight for fast-break dunk at 11:07 mark.
A 7-0 run pulled the Pirates even at 21. Freshman guard Jermaine Marrow scored five of HU's seven points during the spurt, including a jumper with 9:14 left in the opening half to tie it.
W&M answered with a Dixon 3-pointer from the right side to start a 13-2 run. The Green and Gold punctuated the run with back-to-back old-fashion 3-point plays. Prewitt converted the first, hitting a fadeaway jumper from the left side, before Knight provided the second with a driving bucket. His free throw at the 5:37 mark gave the Tribe its largest lead at 34-23. The Green and Gold led by 10, 44-34, at the intermission thanks to 55.6 percent (15-of-27) shooting.
Hampton's Trevond Barnes scored the opening five points of the second stanza to quickly slice the Tribe lead in half. The Pirated followed with a 17-2 run over a five-minute stretch to take control. Lawrence Cooks hit back-to-back 3-pointers to draw HU within a point, and Marrow knocked down a pull-up jumper on the break to give Hampton its first lead at 51-50 just five minutes into the half.
After a Dixon lay-up briefly gave the lead back to W&M, the Pirates scored nine points in a row to open up an eight-point cushion. Marrow scored the first seven points of the run, before a driving Cooks lay-up gave Hampton a 60-52 advantage with 11:12 remaining.
Prewitt scored six-straight points as his running one-hander at the 7:47 mark drew the Tribe within two, 60-58. W&M twice narrowed the gap to a point on conventional 3-point plays from Whitman and Dixon. The latter came at the 3:50 mark to close the gap to 65-64.
The Tribe trailed by three, 70-67, with 1:37 remaining following a Prewitt jumper in the lane. Hampton answered with a Cooks 3-pointer from the right side, and the Pirates hit 6-of-8 from the free throw line over the final minutes to pull out the victory.
W&M shot 42.6 percent (23-of-54) for the game, but was just 8-of-27 (29.6 percent) in the second half. The Green and Gold connected on 18-of-24 (75 percent) from the free throw line and outrebounded the Pirates, 37-27. Whitman added nine points and six rebounds, while Knight tallied eight points off the bench.
On the other side, Hampton finished the game at 48.3 percent (28-of-58) from the field, including 7-of-18 (38.9 percent) from 3-point range.
