PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The William & Mary men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 setback at Brown (1-0) on Monday afternoon to close out a three-match Ivy League road swing. Junior Aidan Talcott and sophomore Alec Miller posted singles wins to lead the way for the Green and Gold (1-2).

Brown jumped out to the early lead in doubles and the initial point of the match came down to a pair of tight matches at No. 2 and No. 3. The Green and Gold tandem of junior Addison Appleby and sophomore Lars de Boer pulled out a tiebreaker win, 7-6, over the Bears pair of Jack Haworth and Mladen Mitak at No. 2. The Tribe duo improved 2-1 on the year and 7-4 over the last two seasons. Brown claimed the doubles point thanks to a 7-5 triumph at the No. 3 post.

In singles, Miller got W&M on the board with a straight-sets win at No. 4 over Brown's Aaron Sandberg. The Tribe sophomore actually avenged a loss to Sandberg from a season ago thanks to a 7-6, 6-1 win over Monday. Miller upped his dual-match ledger to 2-1 and owns a team-best eight wins on the year. Brown, though, responded with straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 to secure the team victory.

Talcott battled to his second-straight, three-set victory at the No. 6 spot. The Tribe junior claimed the opening set, 6-4, before Brown's Charles Tan answered with a 6-3 triumph in the second. In the third-set super tiebreaker, Talcott outlasted Tan, 11-9, to even his singles ledger at 6-6 overall.

The Tribe returns to the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center to open an eight-match homestand this weekend. W&M hosts reigning MEAC Champion South Carolina State on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 10 a.m. The Bulldogs have advanced to the NCAA Tournament each of the last eight seasons. The Green and Gold wraps up the weekend against Navy on Sunday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m.
