Men's Tennis Falls at No. 57 Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - The William and Mary men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 setback to No. 57-ranked Princeton on Friday afternoon at Jadwin Gym. The Tigers won all three doubles positions, and despite being forced to three-sets in a trio of singles matches, secured the team triumph with wins in five of the six singles matches. The Tribe fell to 6-4 on the year, while Princeton improved to 3-0.

Sophomore Damon Niquet tallied the lone Tribe win on the year, rallying for a three-set win at the No. 4 position. Princeton's Alexander Day won the opening set, 6-4, before Niquet bounced back to take the second, 6-3. The Tribe sophomore pulled out the third-set super tiebreaker, 10-5, for his 10th win of the season. Niquet upped his dual-match mark to 6-2.

The Tigers picked up straight-set wins at the top three singles positions to clinch the victory. Sophomore Addison Appleby and junior Scott Huang both went to three sets at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. Appleby won the opening set, 6-3, from Dan Richardson, but the Tiger player rallied to win the No. 5 match, 6-3, 10-6. At No. 6, Huang rallied from a set deficit to force a third-set super tiebreaker. Kial Kaiser won the first set, 6-4, before Huang bounced back to take the second in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (2). In the third-set super breaker, Kaiser outlasted Huang, 10-7.

The Tribe returns to action with its second straight road match against a nationally-ranked Ivy League team. W&M travels to No. 51 Penn on Saturday, Feb. 7, for a 3 p.m. match at the recently renovated Levy Tennis Center in Philadelphia.
