The William & Mary volleyball team battled to the end in each of the last two sets, but were unable to get past league-leading UNCW on Friday night, falling 3-0 on the road. The Tribe moves to 9-17 overall, 3-10 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Seahawks improved to 19-6 (10-3 CAA).
Leading the way for the Tribe was a strong defensive effort by sophomore
Sara Zumbach (Franklin, Tenn.), who had 17 digs and an ace. Over the last three matches, she is averaging 5.6 digs per set. Senior
Dessi Koleva (Torrance, Calif.) matched Zumbach with 17 digs and an ace, and also had eight kills and a block while hitting .292. Fellow senior
Carolyn Albright (Raleigh, N.C.) had a team-best three blocks to go with her four kills, and is now just two blocks from taking over third-place on the Tribe's all-time list.
Also of note, senior
Mallory Brickerd (Ashburn, Va.) hit .571 with four kills and no errors, while playing in just the third and final set. Redshirt-junior
Michelle Heath (Rustburg, Va.) also had four kills and a block, while
Sydney Biniak (Elkridge, Md.) served up two aces with her three kills and three digs. Junior
Austyn Ames (Wichita, Kan.) had a team-best 12 assists with five digs, and freshman
Katie Kemp (Brentwood, Tenn.) rounded out the notables with 10 assists and 7 digs.
William & Mary's final road game of the season comes tomorrow night, with the Tribe playing at the College of Charleston at 7 p.m.
