The William & Mary volleyball team battled strongly through the first two sets against UNCW in the Colonial Athletic Association quarterfinals, but couldn't get over the hump as the Seahawks advanced, 3-0. With the loss, the Tribe's season concludes at 10-20 overall, while the Seahawks improved to 22-7.
The Tribe's top scorer in the match was freshman
Heather Pippus (Lake Oswego, Ore.), who scored seven kills to go with 10 digs. Sophomore
Sydney Biniak (Elkridge, Md.) had five kills, an ace, and a block, and classmate
Paige Humphrey (Oak Hill, Va.) hit .571 with four kills.
Finishing out their careers were three seniors, including
Carolyn Albright (Raleigh, N.C.) who had a team-best three blocks to go with her three kills.
Michelle Heath (Rustburg, Va.) had another two blocks and four kills, and
Dessi Koleva (Torrance, Calif.) had three kills and eight digs.
Other notables included sophomore
Sara Zumbach (Franklin, Tenn.), who had a match-high 17 digs, and classmate
Austyn Ames (Wichita, Kan.) with 10 assists. Freshman
Katie Kemp (Brentwood, Tenn.) chipped in with 11 digs, six assists, and an ace.
